John Roberts on Technology

Supreme Court Justice (nominated by Pres. George W. Bush 2005)

Cannot subpoena individual's computer records

Roberts voted with the majority on the court ruling in the case RECORDING INDUSTRY OF AMERICA v. VERIZON INTERNET SERVICES

The court ruled that the RIAA's subpoena of customer records from Verizon was not allowed under the Digital Millennium Act because individual customer computers, not Verizon's servers, were providing storage of the allegedly pirated music files.
