Bruce Lunsford on Budget & Economy

Democratic Senate challenger

Crack down on unfair mortgage lending practices

Economic times are tough. Our housing market is in crisis. We need to crack down on unfair lending practices and bring transparency to all mortgage transactions. I plan to help mortgage borrowers in tough situations by helping them find ways to restructure their loans and avoid foreclosure. We also have a responsibility to help American workers and small businesses survive during this difficult time. What's good for Wall Street should be good for Main Street.

Making the farm bill work for family farms

Family farms were once the backbone of the American economy. Unfortunately, many family farms have been forced to shut down because they don't receive their fair share of federal farm dollars. In 2005, just over 6% of farms received a whopping 36% of all federal farm subsidies. We must change the way we spend our farm dollars to ensure that family farms receive their fair share.

Help rural business develop

It is vital that small businesses have the tools they need to grow and compete. We need to invest in rural infrastructure such as roads and bridges to help businesses bring their products to market and extend broadband service and internet access to rural communities to help small businesses compete in the modern economy.
