Ed O`Reilly on Government Reform

2000 Bush-Gore decision interfered with states' rights

Q: Since you oppose mandatory sentencing, how do you answer critics' charges of judicial activism?

A: If we talk about judicial activism we should start with the Supreme Court interfering with a states' rights issue relative to the Presidential Election of 2000.

We should have government funded elections

Q: Do you support the VoteMatch statement, "Stricter limits on political campaign funds"?

A: Yes--we should have government funded elections. This is one of the biggest issues facing our democracy.

Q: Your views on McCain-Feingold? On subsidized TV time?

A: See above--government funded elections cover those.

Kerry should have used campaign funds to fight Ohio fraud

O'Reilly said Kerry mishandled contributions to his presidential campaign--including $2,000 O'Reilly donated [as part of $15M in funds left at the end of the campaign]. O'Reilly said Kerry should have used money in his account to challenge the results in Ohio, the state whose electoral college votes put George W. Bush ahead. There were allegations of voter fraud in Ohio. Instead, O'Reilly said, Kerry is using the money left from his presidential bid to help fund his re-election campaign.
