Extend partner benefits to gays
I strongly oppose all forms of discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. I believe that gays and lesbians who are in committed relationships should have the same legal rights and responsibilities as married couples.
It's unconscionable that partners in long-term, loving relationships can be denied the right to visit each other in a hospital, or receive survivor benefits.

Equal rights for GLBT; against DOMA
I will also beat back attempts to deny gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people equal rights, such as House Bill 4840, the "Super-DOMA" [Defense of Marriage Act] legislation that would deny legal recognition to same-sex relationships.
I recently submitted testimony to the Legislature opposing the measure, and urged lawmakers to reject it. It's mean-spirited and divisive, and should have no place in Massachusetts.
