Chris Lugo on Homeland Security

Green challenger

Patriot Act harms civil liberties

Q: Does the Patriot Act harm civil liberties?

A: Strongly Support. I support the elimination of the Patriot Act. I support legislation to abolish the Department of Homeland Security. I support elimination of FISA loopholes. I support an end to racial profiling of Arab Americans. I support the closing of Guantanamo Bay and the return of all detainees to their countries of origin. I support the return of Guantanamo Bay to the people of Cuba. I support and end to the US embargo of Cuba. I support the full disclosure of the government related to spying activities conducted against Americans. I support the full and open disclosure of all information and the return of full access to the Freedom of Information Act and the rights and privileges granted to American citizens under this act. I support the elimination of discreet, undocumented funding of the Central Intelligence Agency, whose undocumented funding accounts for in excess of some $40 billion annually.

Less spending on armed forces

Q: Do you support more spending on armed forces?

A: Strongly Oppose. We are currently spending over $400 billion annually on military expenditures at a time when the nation is no longer involved in a cold war. At a time when we are trillions of dollars in debt we do not need to support a bloated military budget whose only function is to enrich the pockets of investors and send Americans off to die in ill-conceived wars.

Create a cabinet-level Department of Peace

Instead of spending more money on the military, I support already existent legislation to create a department of Peace and make it a cabinet level position.
