Larry LaRocco on Immigration

Democratic Senate Challenger; previously US Rep.

For "Secure America through Verification & Enforcement" Act

The current flow of illegal immigrants should be replaced with a legal immigrant flow. That is why I support the "Secure America through Verification and Enforcement Act." This bipartisan bill provides a three-part plan to reduce illegal immigration by enhancing border security, expanding employer verification, and enforcement of current law. First, the SAVE Act addresses border security by increasing manpower & making needed technological and infrastructure improvements on America's borders, including 8,000 new Border Patrol agents and the infrastructure they need to be effective. Second, it expands the E-Verify program to provide employers with the tools they need to ensure their employees are here legally. Small businesses would begin using the system in a graduated manner. Third, the SAVE Act provides the tools, resources and infrastructure necessary to enforce existing federal laws and penalize offenders. It provides assistance for state and local law enforcement.

Tough & realistic approach: comprehensive but no deportation

I will not be part of any effort, such as deportation, to divide Idahoans on this issue. The goal should be to replace an illegal immigration flow with a legal immigration flow including much needed agricultural workers. We are a nation of immigrants. Most immigrants work hard, pay their taxes, and become contributing members of the community. As Idaho's Senator, I will work for a tough and realistic approach to enforcement and border security coupled with comprehensive immigration reform.

Current policy has led to broken borders

Clearly the current Administration's policy on immigration has led to broken borders with millions of undocumented aliens in our country illegally. Congress shares the blame in its "do nothing" approach to immigration reform.

America needs a new direction on immigration to secure our nation's borders. Border security must be the priority. The current flow of illegal immigrants should be replaced with a legal immigrant flow.
