Forgive college debt to encourage more day-care workers

Lazio’s 1998 bill, HR 3727, gives college graduates incentives to choose child care careers. Nothing is more important than raising the next generation in a safe, secure, healthy environment. We need more qualified day care providers so that our kids & their families are not being short-changed. Every year, an incredible number of students graduate from college with tens of thousands of dollars in student loans. Lazio wants to encourage graduates with a degree to work in a licensed day care facility, by not saddling them with insurmountable debt for years. The legislation provides incentives for the most talented, skilled and qualified early education graduates to work in a licensed day care facility in a low income neighborhood. It forgives a percentage of the principal and interest on the outstanding student loan for each year an eligible graduate works in day care.
