Forgive college debt to encourage more day-care workers

Lazio’s 1998 bill, HR 3727, gives college graduates incentives to choose child care careers. Nothing is more important than raising the next generation in a safe, secure, healthy environment. We need more qualified day care providers so that our kids & their families are not being short-changed. Every year, an incredible number of students graduate from college with tens of thousands of dollars in student loans. Lazio wants to encourage graduates with a degree to work in a licensed day care facility, by not saddling them with insurmountable debt for years. The legislation provides incentives for the most talented, skilled and qualified early education graduates to work in a licensed day care facility in a low income neighborhood. It forgives a percentage of the principal and interest on the outstanding student loan for each year an eligible graduate works in day care. Lazio wants to attract and retain highly qualified educators to the child-care field.
