Randy Forbes on Principles & Values

Republican Representative (VA-4)

Dropped out of Lt. Governor race to run for House vacancy

The death of veteran Fourth District Democrat Norman Sisisky has set the stage for a major battle to succeed him in Congress. In a contested, the Republicans have picked as their candidate State Senator J. Randy Forbes of Chesapeake. Forbes has been the Chairman of the State Republican Party for four years. He is given considerable credit for the GOP’s winning control of the General Assembly and with recent state-wide Republican victories. Forbes has served in the General Assembly since 1990. He was running for Lieutenant Governor in the November election but has dropped out of that race to run for Congress. He says he has President Bush’s backing.

The Fourth Congressional District is being re-drawn for the election in 2002. But for this special election, the existing district lines will be used. The Fourth extends from Louisa County, south of Richmond, through Petersburg to Portsmouth.
