State of Rhode Island secondary Archives: on Homeland Security

Allan Fung: Property tax exemptions for disabled veterans

As Mayor, Allan has been at the forefront of listening to, and caring for his local veterans. Cranston became the first community in Rhode Island to provide a property tax exemption for its disabled veterans. So here's what Allan is going to do: Make Military Pensions Tax Exempt. Expand Locations for our Veterans Affairs Offices. Expand Job Opportunities for Veterans. We'll also ensure that veterans hiring preferences in state government and at the universities are in place and being adhered to.

Jack Reed: No Benghazi cover-up; had 11 hearings & 25,000 documents

Q: You heard Senator McCain call Benghazi and those e-mails a cover-up?

REED: The congress has already had 11 hearings on the topic, over 25,000 pieces of documentation have been provided to the Congress. In fact, the e-mails in question, I believe, were available in February in the context of the John Brennan confirmation hearing.

Q: What about the White House "talking points"? We find these 12 different versions, including a very definitive statement, we do know that Islamic extremists with ties to al Qaeda participated in the attack. That did not appear in the talking points.

REED: That did not appear in the talking points, but I recall when Ambassador Rice was being interviewed on one of the TV shows she essentially said there were extremist elements. She did not contradict that. The president's statement a day after the event, was this was an act of terror. So, there's no attempt that there was a story being created that there was no terrorist involvement.

Donald Carcieri: Gratitude to armed forces for defending our freedoms

I'd like to recognize a proud Rhode Islander. Sergeant First Class Eric Blue was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Valor, earned in Afghanistan. Sergeant Blue distinguished himself by his heroic actions during a complex ambush.

Despite being under heavy fire, he heroically maneuvered through the area to find and evacuate a wounded soldier. It is to men and women like Sergeant Blue that we all owe the deepest gratitude for defending our freedoms and protecting our country.
