Previous Occupation: Chao was a Distinguished Fellow at The Heritage Foundation. She served as President and CEO of United Way of America. She was Director of the Peace Corps, the world's largest international volunteer organization.
Previous Office: Chao's previous government career includes serving as the Deputy Secretary at the US Department of Transportation. She also served as Chairman of the Federal Maritime Commission and Deputy Maritime Administrator in the Department of Transportation.
Education: Chao received her M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School and her A.B. from Mount Holyoke College. She also studied at M.I.T, Dartmouth College, and Columbia University.
Spouse: Chao is married to United States Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky
