Laura Kelly on Jobs

Increase funding for Office of Registered Apprenticeship

This past fall, I created the Office of Registered Apprenticeship in the Department of Commerce. Right now, 3,500 Kansans are gaining the skills, the mentorship, and the credentials they need to succeed in the industries driving the future of our state, from energy to healthcare to advanced manufacturing. My budget increases funding for the Office, giving more Kansans the tools they need to join the modern workforce. We must continue building on the Office's good work.

Rebuilding crumbling infrastructure means jobs

An obvious area for job growth is to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure. I'm proud that Democrats and Republicans came together last year to pass a 10-year infrastructure plan--it's a strategic, practical approach that allows us to prioritize the most urgently needed projects. As we speak, more than 160 state highway and local road projects are under construction or about to be. And another 230 projects have been awarded for future construction.

Future jobs need creative, innovative strategic investments

After years of Governor Sam Brownback's self-inflicted economic recession, Laura Kelly believes we need a new approach to jumpstart job growth in a rapidly changing economy. Laura has long supported traditional engines that drive prosperity: public schools, job training, and infrastructure, but she also believes Kansas leaders must think more like entrepreneurs and less like politicians. We must innovate and make creative, strategic investments that plan for the jobs of the future.

Endorsed by United Steelworkers:fighter for working families

The United Steelworkers today announced its endorsement of state Senator Laura Kelly for governor in the Kansas Democratic primary. USW District 11 Director Emil Ramirez praised Kelly as a powerful advocate for working families. "As a 4-term state senator, Laura has never flinched in fighting for working men and women and their families, on the job and in the community." "Sen. Kelly knows the importance of service and integrity," said USW Local 307L President Jody Juarez.
