Gail Lightfoot on Abortion
2000 Libertarian Challenger for Senate (CA)
|
Oppose embryonic stem cell research
Q: Do you support or oppose expanding federal funding for research using embryonic stem cells?Lightfoot selected, "Oppose."
Lightfoot added, "Again, this is a private sector area of concern. The ethical issues are for scientists and physicians to
resolve and for you & me to decide if we agree enough to support their research. Government research is paid for with taxes we pay under threat of punishment. That is no way to improve our lives and allow each of us to decide where our money ought to go.

Abortion happens, legal or not
Q: Do you support or oppose that abortion is a woman's right?A: YES. The best solution to reducing the overall number of abortions is to permit and encourage open adoption at any point during gestation providing support to individuals and families
facing a crisis in this regard.
Abortion happens, legal or non, induced or spontaneous. All medical decisions are private and not subject to government control. Prosperity and education leads to fewer abortions.

Supports “Abortion is a woman’s right”
Abortion happens. Either by accident, natural causes, illness, disease or other action. We are not going to stop it with laws. We should continue to improve the lives of Americans so more families are able to care for children comfortably.
The abortion rate is decreasing as more women choose other options for birth control. Concentrate on more education and understanding and the rate will decline even further.
